I often get asked by friends what books help you to dig into scripture more, or understand what it is saying better. Or sometimes I get asked which books I think are best for someone who is new to their faith to read, to better help understand Christianity and our beliefs.
C.S. Lewis has a lot of great books! The one I most recommend is Mere Christianity it helps to understand the intellectual reasons behind Christianity and why everything points to God. I also recommend instead of reading C.S. Lewis’s works listening to them on audio tape because it makes them make a lot more sense.
Bob Goff really knows how to point to the truth and this book is no different. Even though I am recommending Everybody Always, Love Does is also so good!
Grace Upon Grace by John W. Kleinig
God’s No and God’s Yes by C.F.W. Walther
The Freedom of a Christian by Martin Luther
Captivating by John & Stasi Eldridge, They also have a book about men, Wild at Heart, I recommend to both men and women to read both as it shows how God works in our hearts in different ways.
The Search for Significance by Robert S. McGee
Every Good Endeavor by Timothy Keller. Although Timothy Keller has a lot of amazing books I think this is the one that is easiest for most people to relate to and find relevant as a general part of their faith. It discusses our use of time and the work we do out in the world.
There are so many amazing books out their to help grow you in your faith or better understand Christianity, but the best one of all is scripture. There are so many amazing studies out there if you feel overwhelmed by how to get started. One of my favorite things I have been doing lately is 5 chapters in the Old Testament (Started in Psalms this time) and One chapter in the New Testament(started in Paul’s letters). There are so many different ways to read scripture, but the important thing is to hold what it says to its true weight, because it is the true living word and has everything about Christianity in it we would ever need.
